Another quilt

Way back in March, when I was bored on a rainy afternoon, I made a quilt top.
I used only fabrics that I had in my stash, and decided to be a bit different and make it very bright with black fabric in between the bright colours, rather than white as the pattern called for. White gets too dirty!!

I've finally had some time to finish the quilt, so yesterday and today I completed it. Decided to use yellow sashing, to make it even brighter, and red binding, well, just coz!
It is a bit bigger than cot sized, but smaller than single bed size. Not sure what I will do with it, for now it will go in a bag in the cupboard, perhaps til another friend has a baby and I need a super-cool gift to give!

My Second Quilt!

Shortly after Emma got pregnant, my brother and his wife told us that they were expecting their first baby too! Theirs is a girl, so again, I took it upon myself, to create a quilt.

Even tho this one LOOKS much more simple, I had so many more issues making it - even after I had spent $90 on a fancy walking foot. I had great help from my mother-in-law though :) she is just about a pro quilter!

I was told NO PINK, and my brother and his wife have put a green stripe around the baby's bedroom. After seeing a lilac and mint green quilt that a friend of mine made for her baby, I decided to make a green and purple quilt for my niece.

To get the inbetween lines straight, I measured and stuck masking tape lines down the whole quilt, sewed them in the same direction, un-pinned, then re-pinned the quilt, re-taped in the other direction, sewed, un-taped, and un-pinned!

My First Quilt

One of my best friends recently had a baby (well, 1.5 weeks ago!), so when I found out she was pregnant, I took it upon myself to make a quilt for their baby. They didn't know if they were having a boy or a girl, so stuck to bright, neutral colours. I found a really cool picture of a quilt online that I decided I wanted to copy:


Me, being the completely new, naiive quilter I am/was, thought "sure, I can do it", and didn't think otherwise, I didn't even have a walking foot, somehow, I managed to create a beautiful quilt!!!
I had a few left over patches (I made extra, just in case), so made a bumper pad too.
